Wide edition mud flaps on Land Rover Defender

Mud Flaps for 4x4s: Wide vs Standard and Why They Matter

Mud flaps are easy to overlook, but anyone who drives gravel roads knows how quickly stones and mud can chip paint and coat the back of the vehicle.

Why fit mud flaps

  • Reduce stone chips on sills, doors and rear bumper
  • Cut down mud spray onto a towed camper, caravan or boat
  • Be kinder to the vehicle behind you on dirt roads

Wide edition vs standard

If your vehicle runs wider wheels, wider tyres or flares, the tyre may sit outside a standard flap's coverage. That is when wide flaps make sense.

Quick tip

After fitting, check clearance at full steering lock and with the suspension compressed, especially if your vehicle is lifted.
