A snorkel is one of the most recognisable 4x4 accessories in Australia. It relocates your engine's air intake from low in the guard to roof height.
What a snorkel does
- Cleaner air: dust hangs low on corrugated roads, so drawing air from up high means less dust reaching your air filter
- Cooler air: air above the bonnet is generally cooler than air near the engine bay
- Higher intake point: lowers the risk of water being drawn into the intake in a crossing
What a snorkel does not do
A snorkel does not make your vehicle waterproof. Electrics, diffs, gearbox breathers and the cabin can all be affected by water. Always check your manufacturer's wading depth and never cross water you are unsure of.
